Mission Context
The Application Hosting squad within Application Production Services (APS) works on the technical design, installation, set-up, industrialization, management, support and documentation of the BNP Paribas Fortis Web Application Hosting Infrastructure.
BNP Paribas Fortis needs a Web Infrastructure Engineer to enforce the Application Hosting squad and support more specifically the migration of our legacy applications to our new data center, which will be a model of “Infrastructure as a service” (IAAS).
Function description
The mission has different aspects:
It goes from configuring certificates & infrastructure configuration kits of applications to providing support for production release, to troubleshooting (performance) issues in non-prod & prod environments, to regularly patching vulnerability findings on our platforms.
Our technology landscape is primarily Websphere-based, with traditional WAS ND 8.5/9 to run Java-based applications.
The WebSphere Engineer is responsible for:
- Creation and maintenance of application configuration kits, certificates, DNS & LB modifications, etc.
- Setup & maintenance of lab, development, staging & production platforms running mutualized web hosting setups
- Regular support-of-the-day, out-of-hours standby for projects & on-call duties
- Supporting application releases up to production
- Handover to Operations & Service Management in all its facets (planning, deployments, testing, industrialization, training)
- Troubleshooting & support through all environments, from development to staging to production
- Participate in the identification of the root cause of an incident and the elaboration (and the implementation) of a solution and if not possible perform a workaround
- Ensuring optimal application performance through platform & application capacity management and deep-application monitoring via Dynatrace
- Standard ITIL processes (incident, problem, change management)
- Restoring the servicing (by restarting the application or the machines, isolating unstable components, …)
- Emergency deployment of application, patching, modification of parameters …
Certain skills will help a Web Infrastructure Engineer thrive within our Fortis environment:
